TIME IN HIS HAND
Read Joshua 10:1-15 The Battle on Behalf of Gibeon
Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel: Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon. (Joshua 10:12)
Five Amorite kings combined their armies against Gibeon. The men of Gibeon pleaded Joshua for protection. In response to their plead Joshua fought against the Amorite kings. Three things the Lord did for Joshua and his men giving them the victory.
First, God gave them the assurance Do not be afraid of them, the Lord said to Joshua, for I have given you victory over them. Not a single one of them will be able to stand up to you. (:8) The promise comes before it happens. They needed to go out by faith based on Gods promise.
Second, God fought for their behalf (:12). The battle belongs to the Lord. He is the Commander in chief whom Joshua met at the other side of Jordan. The fall of the wall of Jericho and the battles at Ai were evidenced of God fighting on their behalf. The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace. (Exodus 14:14)
Third, God stopped the sun at Joshuas command. from moving until the battle is done. God has acted over nature in response to the prayer of His people. He acted in Joshuas prayer. He responded to Elijahs prayer of sending the rain, He heard Hezekiahs prayer moving the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down on the sundial of Ahaz. (II Kings 20:10-11) Jesus commanded the storm to be still (Matthew 8:26-27).
We are not in control but God is. Questions and concerns turn our attention towards God who has the final say. What should our response be? As Joshua did so we do when directed by the Spirit. Then Jesus told them, I tell you the truth, if you have faith and dont doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea, and it will happen. You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it. (Matthew 21:21-22 NLT)
Prayer: Father God, You have control over the weather and all creation for You are the Creator. Thanks for giving me the faith to exercise over creation and situations beyond my control to see Your given assignments are done in the name of Jesus.
