Read Deuteronomy 6 Love the Lord Your God

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. (Deuteronomy 6:5)

What was it like when you first experienced of being in love? Nothing you do or sacrifice was a drudgery or obligation. You felt the pleasure of doing it.

In preparation to enter the Promised Land, Moses reminded them of the wildernesses experience. Their wondering because of their unbelief but God remained faithful. Now as they proceed, they would also encounter the heathens and tempted to compromise. He thus challenged them to obey His commandments. This command is repeatedly given in Deuteronomy 11:13, 22; 19:9. Jesus said to him, You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. (Matthew 22:37).

It is impossible to keep God's command without loving God. The Israelites promised they will do whatever Moses said. However, they failed now and then. Moses reminded them of what God had done as evidenced of Gods love. With such recollection the response is to love God.

Jesus showed us what it means to love the Father. As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Fathers commandments and abide in His love. (John 15:9-10). He keeps the command out of the Fathers love within and abiding in that love. The same it is for us, this love comes by faith and receiving what the Father has given us. for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God. (John 16:27) For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. (I John 5:3).

In Christ too; we are lavished with the Fathers love that we respond correspondingly. Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. (I John 3:1) Its love without reservation involving the heart, soul and strength.

We love God with our intellect, spiritual understanding and wisdom which come by meditating on His word.

Prayer: Father God, Your love has drawn us to love You. We give You the full allegiance above all else. Let it be my wholehearted commitment to loving Him. Let this love come before our giving, serving and living in accordance to Your will.
