FOLLOWING THE PRESENCE
Read Numbers 10:11-36 The Israelites leave Sinai
So they set out from the mountain of the LORD and traveled for three days. The ark of the Covenant of the LORD went before them during those three days to find them a place to rest. (Numbers 10:33)
The Israelites had left Sinai represented by their respective leaders were instructed to make sacrifices. They moved with the ark ahead of them. In their stations the ark was in the middle, yet in their marches it went before them. The Kohathites had the charge of the ark. They were to set forward, bearing the sanctuary, after the second or southern camp, i.e., in the midst of the host.
The ark couldnt be seen of all the camps. It was carried only upon mens shoulders, thus was impossible to be seen. The cloud was constantly over the ark, whether it stood or went; therefore, the ark is said to go before and direct them. As the cloud, which always attended upon the ark, and did, together with the ark, constitute, in a manner, one sign of Gods presence, did lead and direct them. Thus, the cloud move they broke camp and followed the cloud and when it stopped; they would set up the camp. The cloud appears to have extended over the whole of the host during the journeys, and to have served as a protection from the scorching heat
Whenever the ark set out, Moses would shout, Arise, O Lord, and let your enemies be scattered! Let them flee before you! (Numbers 10:35). And when the ark was set down, he would say, Return, O Lord, to the countless thousands of Israel! (Numbers 10:36)
The ark representing the presence of God was so significant to the Israelites that provided them the sense of protection, direction and rest. They were assured of victory in warfare with it among them. They take their positioning from the location of where the ark is.
We need the ark to go before us for this is where we got the victory. Following the Lord is establishing His presence and scattering the enemies. There can only be rest in His presence as And He said, My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. Then he said to Him, If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. (Exodus 33:14-15) Be it the same for us in the church with Gods presence pre-eminence where we take of guidance and make decision both do ministry and interpersonal relationships.
Prayer: Father God, I desire Your leading. Where You led me is where Your presence is. You have caused me to live triumphantly. When I am settled, I will still abide in Your presence.
