THE BENEDICTION
Read Numbers 6:22-27 The Priestly Blessing
The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)
Moses had led them through the wilderness. He had taken a censure of those who were twenty and above. He set the arrangement of the tribal camps and formation for the move. He sets apart those serving in the Tabernacle. After which some regulations were given to ensure purity of the camp. Moses than instituted the Nazirite vow and bless the people. He pronounced six things mentioned in this benediction:
First the LORD bless is to speak well and wholeness. Like a father would to his children with the power to fulfil. God has spoken spiritual blessing as well as the physical blessings to us. The people will see the Lord's provision for their health, sustenance and relationship which come through their obedience.
Second, the LORD keeps meaning He guards them from hurt like a shepherd would lay down in the gap between the wires lest the sheep got entangled while moving into the fold. It speaks of protecting them from the enemy.
Third, the LORD makes His face shine upon you, its a military word of turning about one's face to a specific direction. His face is drawn towards them showing favour.
Fourth, the LORD be gracious to you speaking of His forgiveness. It refers to the unmerited favour that we receive His love unconditionally.
Fifth, the LORD lifts up His countenance upon you, is the idea of approval so at to lead them forward.
Finally, give you peace. It's shalom, of wellbeing. It's the peace of God that will govern one's mind and heart. They would enjoin acceptance and harmony among themselves and with God.
Make this decree daily over our lives and those of our lives ones as well as those the Lord beings to our memory.
