Read Genesis 27-28 Jacob flees from Esau

Whats more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you. (Genesis 28:15)

As a young pastor, I was very anxious in preparing for my first mission trip to India. I fasted for seventeen days. The assurance that God will accomplish what He wants and bring me back safely came with this passage. Here was another one who receive such assurance. He is Jacob.

Jacob was fleeing for his life. He had deceived both his father and brother. He was afraid. In the midst of running away from Esau; God spoke to him. God was after Jacob. It was not Jacob who seeks God but God sought him in his lonely and miserable stage.

God promised His presence. "I am with you This reminded him that God sees everything he did. His presence removes fear, "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." (Isaiah 41:10)

God promised His protection. "I will protect you He will keep Jacob safe. This is evidenced as we note how God warned Laban (Genesis 31) and Esau (Genesis 32) those who could have harm him.

God promised His perseveration. "One day I will bring you back to this land." This land was the Promised Land to Abraham and his descendants. God assured Jacob; He would also bring him back safely. "The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore." (Psalm 121:7-8)

God promised His provisions. "... until I have finished giving you everything, I have promised you. He could see it is God who gave and not his effort that he merited it. Jacob thus responded by vowing to tithe as an acknowledgment that He is his God.

Prayer: Father God, Your assurance of Your presence takes away the fear within and given the courage to be where I am. Your blood, and the angels are my protection as I venture out. Fulfil Your plan for my life as Your channel. You will lead me, accomplish what You set to do through my life and bring me back safely.
