Read II Corinthians 1 The God of All Comfort

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (II Corinthians 1:3-4 NKJV)

Paul begins with blessing the Lord. God is blessed when His power is revealed through our lives. He worships God for who He is.

God is the Source of all mercies and comfort. True mercy and comfort must originate from Him. God is just, holy and all powerful yet He works things out of compassion and sympathy. All of the comfort we experienced come from God though through different channels.

God comforts us personally. He is involved with us. He comes along side. In all our trials that are crushing us mentally, emotionally. He does through the ministry of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16, 26) and His words, And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit, (I Thessalonians 1:6)

We have no comfort to offer to others unless we experienced what we have received from Him. This is the mystery of the purpose of God. Purpose is to experience His comfort so as to comfort others. Nevertheless God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, and not only by his coming, but also by the consolation with which he was comforted in you, when he told us of your earnest desire, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more. (II Corinthians

One who had gone through a pain is able to understand another going through the same. A mother whom I had tea with left to comfort another woman as she had gone through the pain of losing a child. Here is what Paul wrote when we experience comfort, we will be able to comfort others as well.

Prayer: Lord thank You for the Comforter who dwells within. He reminds me of the testing I have being through and how He comforted me. I am empowered as an encourager and will thus do so when I see my brethren in difficulties.
