GOD'S DWELLING PLACE
Read I Corinthians 3 Concept of Christian Service
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (I Corinthians 3:16 NKJV)
The Corinthians were giving emphasis to the spirit that they disregarded the body. They took the body as to be destroyed one day and so live immorally. Here Paul wrote to keep the body blameless and not to destroy it, disrespect it or abuse it for various reasons.
It's a place of worship when we think of the temple. It began with the Tabernacle then Solomon's temple. It was majestic and glorious. It's furnishings were typed of Christ speaking of God's dwelling thus we are now the temple, the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. Thus it's Holy. We grieve Him in our sin (Eph 4:30)
Paul continued in similar idea, "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are Gods. (I Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV)
We are stewards of all we have as they come from God including our body. It's brought at a price. It's not ours. Its meant to glorify God for the purpose of expressing Christ. We are the light of the world.
Paul wrote about the Foundation For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (I Corinthians 3:11 NKJV). Three kinds of temples - Tabernacle of Moses in the wilderness, Solomon's temple in Jerusalem and Christ referred to His body on earth. Now we are His temple God dwells through the work of the spirit Eph. 2:1. The church too has a pattern for building just as the others. Jesus is the Foundation above the sacrifices, furnishing and activities.
Prayer: Lord Thank You for the way I am wonderfully and fearfully made so as to adapt to the environment and express Your image.
