INTRODUCTION

The earliest Gospel probably written about A. D. 60-65 to the gentiles in Rome. John Mark was not one of the twelve. A co-worker with Peter and Paul. He compiled what Peter must have communicated to him. He accompanied Paul on his first missionary journey (Acts 13:13).

Mark begins with the identity of Jesus, The beginning of the Good news about Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God. However, his message focuses Jesus as the greatest Servant. his Thus, making the narratives full of vivid actions with sense of urgency and chronologically. Three main episodes of actions are the essence of this gospel. First, from Galilee to Jerusalem and on the way in between. Yet can be divided into two main sections.

Chapters 1-8 Is Jesus the Messiah? The preparation for Jesus' ministry and His ministry in Galilee giving proof of His divinity through teaching and miracles. Jesus brings Gods kingdom of healing even raising the dead and forgiveness of sin. Different responses toward Him. Parables about the mystery of Gods kingdom, like the mustard seed. Disciples struggle what it means Jesus is the Messiah. Started with the question who you think I am? Peter recognises Him but disciples think of him using power to defeat the Romans.

Chapters 9-16 How does this Messiah reign? Jesus explained of His servanthood from Isaiah and the greatest shall serve. The transfiguration to show His full glory and yet as servant.

The paradox of how Jesus becomes the Messianic King. His welcome into Jerusalem and hailed as the king. He entered the courted yard to confronting the leaders of hypocrisy and cleansing the temple. He prophesied of the destruction of Jerusalem. Followed His suffering and death in Jerusalem. His resurrection and appearances
