Read Matthew 16 Jesus Being Revealed

He said to them, But who do you say that I am? Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 16:15-17 NKJV)

Jesus would ask question about Himself than just the activities. He said to them, But who do you say that I am? (:15)

Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. (:16) The confession of Peter asserts the divinity as well as the humanity of Christ. He acknowledged Jesus as the Son of the living God. This expression denotes Christs divine nature. He declared that Jesus is the Christ, that is, the Messiah. This asserts the truth with regard to the office or work as well as the Person of the Son of God.

When Peter confessed Jesus as who He is; Peter was pronounced "blessed". And his name was mentioned as Simon Bar Joanna. This signifies "the son of one that is gracious". It brings to mind of his birth and parentage, but does not pronounce him blessed on that account. Peter had received the faith which he now professed, not through popular rumours, not through the teaching of scribes, His blessedness was not of nature, but of grace; the knowledge he had of the Messiah, was not owing to his earthly father, or to the advantage of an education, but to the revelation he had from Christ's Father which is in heaven.

For true knowledge of God, and of His Son Jesus Christ, does not come through the flesh. He was led by the Spirit of God to see through the veil of our Lords human nature to recognise the divine. For Peter there was certainty of revelation but lack personal allegiance as yet in one's life. However, his confession was also the foundation in which the church Jesus build.

For the religious teachers, leaders, scribes who studied prophecies and rich heritage yet would not have any revelation of Christ. Likewise whatever we could study unless the Lord reveals to us we will not see.

Prayer: Lord Thank You for the Holy Spirit dwelling within me that make Christ so personal to me and reveals to me Who He is. I asked Lord, that my knowledge of You be given by the Holy Spirit and not human wisdom.
