" And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. (:21) So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: (:22) Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated, God with us (Matthew 1:21-23)

Matthew was writing for the Jewish readers. The ancestry line is significant. It shows Christ is from the descendants of both royalties and common people, Jews, Gentiles and even of questionable characters.

The virgin Mary bringing forth a Son. His name "Jesus" was given by the angel even before conception (Lk.2:21) His name meaning Saviour for He will save His people from their sins. He came to save sinners as Jesus knew of His mission, "...For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance" (Matt.9:13)

Christs birth is a prophetic fulfilment of God promised. Prophecies concerning His linage, as He was from David. His birth was prophesied by Isaiah (Isaiah 7:14). There were the angelic visitations to announce of His birth, to both Joseph and Mary for the reception of the child (1:20) The priests, teachers and the wise men recognized Him, acknowledge the fulfilment of the prophecies and worship Him (Matthew 2:6 cp. Micah 5:2) His life was protected by divine intervention as the warning of the wise men to keep it confidential where they seen Jesus and Joseph to take the child to Egypt (2:12,13)

He is also called, Immanuel as John said, And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14) . Jesus said, "...the Father is in Me, and I in Him." (John 10:38) "If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him." (John 14:7). His birth is indeed the plan of God, with a purpose to save, communicate the presence of God and a fulfilment of prophecies.

Prayer: Father God, thank You for Jesus as You have promised for me. Now i seen You Father God through Him. My experience of salvation He gave through His death of the cross free me from the bondage of earning salvation through the law and works. I am living by faith appropriating Your grace and growing in my relationship with Him being transformed to His image.
