JONAH [22 23 JULY DAY 204 - 205]
INTRODUCTION
Jonah prophesied around 760 B.C. during Jeroboam II of Israel (II Kings 14:23-27) Jesus validated Jonahs experience in the belly of the fish as factual (Matt. 12:39-41).
Chapter 1 Jonah Fleeing, God called Jonah to Nineveh and preach coming judgment. Jonah didnt like the Ninevites wishing judgment. He fled toward Tarshish. A storm arose while he slept. The sailors cast lots and determined Jonah was the cause of the storm. Jonah told them to throw him overboard and the sea was calm. God prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. He spent three days and three nights in the belly of the fish
Chapter 2 Jonah Praying. God caused the fish to vomit up Jonah to the dry land at Nineveh
Chapter 3 Jonah Preaching, He preached coming judgment. He warned the people that they must confess their evil deeds to God. Otherwise, God would destroy their nation in 40 days. The people including the king obeyed Jonah and repented. God forgave the people in Nineveh. God did not destroy Nineveh at this time.
Chapter 4: Jonah Learning, Jonah prayed again and expressing his grievances. Jonah was sad, because Nineveh was his enemy. Jonah wanted God to destroy Nineveh. But God told Jonah that God cares about the people from every nation. He also cared about changing Jonahs heart. God taught Jonah about His love and compassion.
