GOD'S DWELLING
Read Isaiah 57 Gods Way of Restoration
For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones. (Isaiah 57:15 NKJV)
The Israelites were living on men made religion with images. They gave lip services without understanding the holiness of God. Isaiah was calling them to repentance by declaring who God is and His dwellings.
The LORD introduces Himself to His people as the One high and great in majesty who was there from the beginning. He is above all people, nations and gods. He is sovereign, having dominion over all. He is from everlasting to everlasting, without beginning or end. God is holy, and the source of holiness to His creatures, angels and men. The attribute apart from anyone. His holiness is displayed in all his works.
He dwelt in the most holy place as in the midst of the triune personalities rather than a boundary location. He dwells not merely by his omnipresence and omnipotence, but by His spirit and grace. The Lord dwells, not only with the other divine Persons, and with those high ones, but with such who are broken under a sense of sin. Spiritually crush suggest pain, remorse, rejection. Those who have to grip honestly of themselves.
God dwells where He could quicken and revive the spirit of the humble and the heart of the contrite person. He speaks and works in them by the word and Spirit of His grace, which will be reviving to them. He will give them reviving joys and hopes sufficient to counterbalance all the grief and fears that break their spirits. He dwells with them, and His presence is reviving.
He revives the spirit of the humble by his gracious presence. He quickens the downcast so that they become comfortable in their souls, and are quickened to the fresh exercise of grace, and discharge of duty. Who is like the LORD our God, Who dwells on high, Who humbles Himself to behold The things that are in the heavens and in the earth? He raises the poor out of the dust, And lifts the needy out of the ash heap, (Psalms 113:5-7)
Prayer: Lord You are eternal, dwell in the high and lofty place and holy yet became like us that You may dwell among us. How often I have felt unworthy, incompetent and imperfect yet You revive me who are dependence upon You.
