GODS PALMS
Read Isaiah 49 The Promised Messiah
Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me. (Isaiah 49:15-16 NKJV)
The people of Israel felt that God had forgotten them in Babylon. Just like us experiencing occasions of been forsaken because of our own struggles. Isaiah pointed out that God would never forget them. The prophet uses three analogies to remind us of His love.
First of a mother who bore the child, nurses her own child would naturally show compassion and love. The child cried, no one heard it; but the mother does. I thought of mothers who gave their lives for their children in caring for them, nurturing them and evolving their lives around them. Yet they falter with human limitations but not God. The affection for His people is greater than the devotion a woman has for her nursing child!
Second, the inscription on the palms of Gods hands. He certainly knows us by names and has inscribed us in the palms of His hands. This passage truly reminds us of the intensity of Gods love and care for us. Like the song, His eye is on the sparrow and he watches over me. After reading it I noted the three analogies the prophet uses to remind us how much we meant to God.
Third, as walls continually before Him. The walls refer to the walls of the city of Jerusalem, which figuratively speak of the health, the strength, the prosperity, and the security of Gods people. God is always mindful of the condition of His people in all these aspects.
.
Prayer: Lord You have nursed and cared for me like a mother for her child and I am under Your constant watchful eyes. I have Your attention and I want to stay aware of Your presence giving You, my attention. Not only am I watched but protected by the wall You have placed around me.
