GRASPING THE WIND
Read Ecclesiastes 1-2 Vanity of Life
Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 2:11).
I wanted as I had thought to make a difference, change the church around, bring in revival, made it a mission center. But it wasnt so after 40 years of ministry. This was what Thomas Moore attempted to create a city of Ethiopia during the reign of King Henry in the 17 centuries only to end up being executed because it was disillusionment. King Solomon had made it to be the richest, the wisest, the most pleasure one can ever have enjoined, but what did he write at his later years?
He looks and reflects on all that he had done and toiled to find fulfillment and satisfaction to enjoy all pleasures offered in this life, And I set my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under heaven; this burdensome task God has given to the sons of man, by which they may be exercised. (Ecclesiastes 1:13)., I said in my heart, Come now, I will test you with mirth; therefore enjoy pleasure; but surely, this also was vanity. I said of laughter Madness!; and of mirth, What does it accomplish? (Ecclesiastes 2:1-2)
He concludes all as vanity as if grasping of the wind whatever he gained will be lost, whatever he had enjoyed will be taken away. And I set my heart to know wisdom and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also is grasping for the wind. (Ecclesiastes 1:17).
There was no profit as it will not last here on earth. What profit has a man from all his labor In which he toils under the sun...All things are full of labor; Man cannot express it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor the ear filled with hearing. (Ecclesiastes 1:3, 8) For who can eat, or who can have enjoyment, more than I? For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting, that he may give to him who is good before God. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind. (Ecclesiastes 2:25-26)
Prayer: Father God, all that I have done and toil could have been in vain if You were not in it. I desire to find satisfaction in You and not the outcome of my labor. Let the way I live is an expression of my gratitude and appreciation for Your love in labour.
