THE LORD BUILDS
Read Psalm 127 Prospering with the LORD
Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. (Psalm 127:1)
Solomon wrote this Psalm of ascent. He had built great temple, palaces, buildings, gardens, cities and military might but wrote Ecclesiastes reminded much labour ended in vainly. He did so much but failed to follow the Lord. He failed in his relationship and familys life that led to the division of the kingdom. Many have houses even big ones but not homes. Four contributing factors to building a home (4Ss) are mentioned in this Psalm:
Success comes from the LORDs plan. The man who builds his house on the sand does so in vain. Such will not stand in the face in the time of crisis. What's our foundation we built our house on? We can be working hard putting our children under great pressure but not on things eternal. Building apart from the Lord is vanity.
Safety comes from the LORDs protection; we can guard the city but to no avail when there is earthquake and terrorists attack. We can only trust God for ultimate protection through prayer and not men.
Sustenance comes from the LORDs provision (:2) He provides His beloved sleep. When we trusting the Lord and keep our focus upon Him we are simultaneously rejecting anxiety and worry. Fully trust the Lord brings us peace, rest and strength. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. (Psalm 121:4)
Succession comes from the LORDs procreation (:3-5). The children are gifts from the LORD. They are not to be considered as burdensome, but to be guided, skilfully led. It calls parents to cultivate relationship as priority. This includes committed to family, spend time together, good communication, express appreciation, spiritual commitment and solve problems and conflict. The home will be honoured and unashamed. Such blessings upon those who fear the Lord, (Psalms 128)
Prayer: Lord it is You, I trust and boast. I thought of how I could have laboured in vain if You have not built this house. I desire to invest my time in lives and relationship that's in this household meaningfully.
