TREASURED WITHIN
Read Psalm 119 The Wander of His Word
Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. (Psalms 119:11 NKJV)
Psalm 119 is the longest Psalm. It is divided according to the 22 alphabets of the Hebrews language. The Psalmist wrote the significance of Gods Word. The Word is to be cherished by listening, reading, meditating, applying and living it out. It is the most powerful antidote against sin.
The Psalmist heard and read the Word of God, and thought about it continually, until it became ingrained in both mind and heart. The heart is a place of both thinking and feeling. We hide or treasure the Word in our hearts through meditation and memorizing it. (Deuteronomy 6:5-9). We make references to it whenever the Spirit quickens us. - "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will help you remember everything that I have said to you." (John 14:26) Remembering what God has done in the past is vital for living by faith in the future (Romans 12:2) Jesus quoted Deuteronomy each time the devil tempt Him in the wilderness. He quoted from 24 books over 180 times, setting the example for us on how important it is to have God's Word on our hearts and in our minds.
The Word is a guard (:9-16). It is a defense against sin. The young man can maintain a pure life by guarding his life according to the instructions given in the Word. "Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it." (Hebrews 2:1)
The Word is a guide (:10-11). It gives us direction and discernment to avoid and overcome temptations. It helps us to better understand God and his will (Psalm 40:8). It prepares us to be able to encourage, comfort and council others (2 Timothy 3:16)
The Word brings gladness (:12-16) one is delighted when the word is revealed. It brings life and hope, faith and strength, restoration and reconciliation when it is proclaimed. A lifestyle of living through the Word makes us a witness to pre-believers, as well as defend the Gospel (1 Peter 3:15)
Prayer: Lord, You are the Word and as I have Your Word hidden in my heart, so are You the meditation of my heart. The more I recalled to memory and the more I consult and live by it the more are You seen through my life.
