NEHEMIAHS PERSEVERANCE
Read Nehemiah 4-6 Facing Oppositions
So I sent messengers to them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you? But they sent me this message four times, and I answered them in the same manner. (Nehemiah 6:3-4 NKJV)
Do you see the Lord sustaining you in what you are doing as serving Him in spite of the many obstacles especially words that would discourage you for doing what you want for the Lord? Nehemiah faces four times of distraction, defamation by open letters to gossip, slanders and lies, and a hired prophet to deceive him with fear of his life at stake. He stayed focus till the wall is rebuilt.
Nehemiah assigns the different ones to build the different gates and sections of the wall. The builders face oppositions from Sanballat and Tobiah. They spoke with contemptuous words and threat of force and death. Some of the workers were affected and began to wane as well. There was also internal discontent over taxation of the Jews
In the face of opposition, Nehemiah responded in prayer. He continued the work, stationed guards to protect against the enemy both day and night. He stationed them by families, with their swords, spears, and bows. He encouraged the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people, Dont be afraid of them. Remember the great and awesome Lord, and fight on behalf of your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your families! They stayed alert and diligence with their clothes and armed (Nehemiah 4:14).
When Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest heard that Nehemiah had rebuilt the wall and no breach remained in it; they sought a meeting with him. Nehemiah responded by seeing God's assignment as the great work. It is far more important and acting in wisdom refused to meet them to avoid harm. He was steadfast in his choice not to meet with them for four consecutive times. The enemy target is the key person. And it happened, when all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations around us saw these things, that they were very disheartened in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was done by our God. (Nehemiah
Prayer: Father, Your work will succeed. I am thankful to what You have entrusted me. A means I draw closer to You, ever more dependence of You and a greater blessing to those around. I will stay focus in my calling and assignment given me. You will fight for me while I give due diligence to my responsibilities.
