Read Nehemiah 1 Nehemiah Prays for Jerusalem

And I said: I pray, LORD God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your commandments, please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my fathers house and I have sinned. (

Nehemiah was still serving the King Artaxerxes, of Persia while the first exile had returned to Jerusalem. He met Hanani, with some of the men from Judah. They spoke to him about the situation of the Jews and Jerusalem.

The remnant that remains from the exile there in the province are experiencing considerable adversity and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem lies breached, and its gates have been burned down!

When he heard the situation, he turned to God in fasting and praying. This unsurmountable task can only be accomplished through prayer. Nehemiah took his pain and stress to God in prayer

Acknowledges LORD God as enthroned in the heavens, is the great, awesome and faithful God. He keeps His loving covenant with those who love him and obey his commandments.

Be attentive is what Nehemiah pleaded that God hears his prayer. A sense of total dependence of God and not men. God alone will hear whatever is within his heart cry. He humbly confided God fully his longing.

Confession of the sins with its consequences without excuses. He pleads on account of himself and others. It begins with us, our family, cohorts, church, community and country. God's promises and if they repent and pleasure in showing respect to His name.

Prayer: Father, open my eyes to see the situation and needs as You see. Grant me the humility to identify with the needs You show me for the people and ministry. Grant me the way You felt and Holy Spirit intercede through me as well to fulfil my role as to honour Your Name.
