WRONG CHOICE
Read Judges 17-18 Idolatry in the tribe of Dan
"Now this man Micah owned a shrine. He made an ephod and some personal idols and hired one of his sons to serve as a priest. In those days Israel had no king. Each man did what he considered to be right" (Judges 17:5-6)
Israel went into apostacy. An incident recorded for us regard to Israel turning to idolatry. Micah hired a Levite to be his priest. Micah worshipped the idols he made out of stolen money from his mother. He had a religion for his conscience. He was in deception. He hired a priest, making worship convenient by having in his house instead where God had ordained as His way and place in Shiloh.
What was the cause? How would life be without rules and authority? Theres no accountability, check and balance. This was what happened in Israel in the day of judges. They were without king and did what was right in their own eyes. They were defiance wilfully as the House of God was in Shiloh.
What was the consequences? It started with restlessness, the Danites were spying to occupy new territory. They came upon the household of Micah. They acted rashly by taking Micah's idolatry and the Levite as priest. This act led to the idolatry of the whole tribe. As in Micahs day, today people reject Gods right way of worship. They have their homemade version of living as what pleases them.
What is the cure? It is by turning away from sin of doing whatever what one thinks is right in his own eyes without alignment to Gods word. There is a way that sees right to a man, But its end is the way of death. (Proverbs 14:12)
Prayer: Father God, You alone are worthy of worship. Its not ritual, religious activities that I worship You. It is Knowing Your Son, Christ red are the King of kings and the law written in our hearts as our conscience. Grant that we will worship You according to Your ways and not of ourselves.
