Read Judges 7 The selected few

And the LORD said to Gideon, The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, My own hand has saved me. (Judges 7:2)

The Israelites were intimidated by the Medianites. God raised Gideon to deliver them. Gideon questioned his ability to do so. God gave him the confirmation through the fleece he set.

Now he got the men to go and fight. 32,000 men responded. The Israelites would have boasted themselves by their own strength should they win. God wanted to reveal He is fighting for them. They would acknowledge God who led them to victory.

Gideon told those who are timid to leave and 22,000 of them left leaving only 10,000 who were willing to fight. God told Gideon that's still too many. Like the incident of Jonathan who said to his armour bearer, Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the LORD will work for us. For nothing restrains the LORD from saving by many or by few. (1Samuel 14:6)

He instructed Gideon to bring them down to the spring, and divide the men into two groups. In one group put all those who cup water in their hands and lap it up with their tongues like dogs. In the other group put all those who kneel down and drink with their mouths from the stream. Only 300 of the men lapped with their tongues from their hands were chosen. All the others got down on their knees and drank in the stream. The Lord told Gideon, With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home.

Often time we want more numbers. God wants the right people. He will not share His glory, "I am the Lord, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images." (Isaiah 42:8 NKJV)

Prayer: Father God, You have commissioned me to lead certain group of men and women in service. They have different competencies and levels of commitment. You know those You wish to have. Those who give You the glory in the outcome of the task then to attribute men the glory thats is rightfully Yours alone.
