Read Deuteronomy 8 A Call to Remember and Obey

And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. (Deuteronomy 8:18)

We often thought of our effort that enable us to achieve what we have gotten. The abundance we enjoy and take pride in can take away the consciousness of our need of dependence upon God.

Now God reminded the Israelites not to boast of what they have; to think they have achieved all their wealth through their own efforts. Do not say in their heart, My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth. They would have pursued wealth instead of God. They have failed to remember it was God who chose them, who kept His covenant with them and had prospered them.

God had covenanted with the Israelites through their fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to bless them. He had delivered them from the land of bondage, Egypt. He had been with them through the wilderness. His presence brought them the protection and provision. Now He is bringing them into a land of milk and honey. They would prosper as they settle and build.

Today, we have no lack of food, clothing and accommodation. We have more than we need to brighten our lives. What happened to the Israelites could happen to us. Remember means we do forget. How easy for us to take pride in our nation's building as well as in our own achievements and possessions. Thus says the LORD: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight, says the LORD. (Jeremiah 9:23-24 NKJV) Reflections of the past with God in it. Do not be deceived with selfs glory.

Prayer: Father God, You have established the labour of my hand. You have empowered me and blessed me with health and strength to accomplish all that I have. You let me through different challenges and shown me Your provisions. In Christ, I have no lack and am reminded I do all through things through Christ who strengthen me by the enduement of the Holy Spirit. Power.
