Read Leviticus 1 Procedures for the Burnt Offering

Now the LORD called to Moses, and spoke to him from the tabernacle of meeting, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: When any one of you brings an offering to the LORD, you shall bring your offering of the livestockof the herd and of the flock. (Leviticus 1:1-2)

The context which we read flow from Exodus 40:35-35 when Moses couldn't enter the tent of meeting because the glory of God had settled on it. Now God provided the way man could approach Him. It was by way of bringing an offering. These offerings give the prophetic picture of Christ as the Sacrifice revealed in the New Testament.

A God-ward Sacrifice. God instructed what and how the offerings are done. Christ offered Himself to God not to Satan. And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit. Having said this, He breathed His last. (Luke 23:46) how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:14)

A Submissive Sacrifice. A domestic animal that is silent before its slaughter. Christ was likened to a lamb that opened not His mouth, He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. (Isaiah 53:7).

Perfect Sacrifice - A male without blemish. Christ is perfect before God and men. He was tempted at all point as we are yet without sin.

Substitutability Sacrifice. The priests laying hands on the head of the burnt offering was to signify their sins been Identified with the sacrifice. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, (I Corinthians 15:3)

An Atonement Sacrifice. It speaks of covering. being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, (Romans 3:24-25)

Prayer: Father God, You have provided the way for man to have access. Now through Your Son, I have the access into Your presence. I live with Your smile upon me as You see Christ. Lord, all wraths which belong to me are turned to You and now I have Your righteousness. Thank You, Holy Spirit for effecting that great exchange within.
