RESTEDNESS
Read Exodus 33:12-23 Moses Sees the LORDs Glory
And He said, My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. Then he said to Him, If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. (Exodus 33:14-15)
One word for the New Year, Rest said a fellow colleague in view of the challenges ahead. How much more Moses must have asked for the same. In fact, he asked for Gods presence and that will be the rest. Its the internal stage than the external.
Moses was up on Mt. Sinai receiving the instruction on the construction and erection of the Tabernacle. The Israelites were impatience with Moses taking too long to come down. They turned to Aaron for making gods to lead them. He set up a golden calf from the contributions made by the Israelites. This provoked the Lord. God wanted to destroy them. Moses implored the LORD on the ground of His deliverance, the mockery of the Egyptians, the promises to the forefathers, to the extent of being willing to have his name be denied for eternity. God is just and thus He deals justly. For His people He shows kindness and mercy. He answered Mosess prayer.
The LORD reminded Moses of His desire to bring them to the land of which He swore to give them. God promised the angel to lead but would not go with them because they were stiff neck people. He might smite them should He bet there. But Moses insisted that God would go with them. Moses interceded for His presence on the ground of God's commission given him to lead the people. He taken the privilege of his intimacy God has him and the people he is leading belong to God (Exodus 33:7-13). The LORD answered his prayer in line with His purpose.
As we have a fresh year before us. There are uncertainties. We do not know what lies ahead but the Lord knows. God sees our desperation to depend on Him for direction. What shall we ask? Is it for our goals to be accomplished? Moses knew better. He asked for Presence. It's better in the wilderness with the presence of the Lord than in the Promised Land without it. The presence of God brings the sense of peace, joy and rest.
The presence of God now dwells within us! Let us ask for a consciousness of His presence within us and to be led. With it we can move on with confidence.
Prayer: Father God, You know the end from the beginning. Lord, let the beauty of Your presence be seen in us. Holy Spirit, I am drawn to the consciousness of Your indwelling. Let my decision, what I do, how I response be outflow of the communion with You. Lead me according to where You would have me to go for that abiding presence is my assurance of Your blessing.
