Read Genesis 49 Jacobs Last Words to His Sons

Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father's children shall bow down before you. (:8) Judah is a lion's whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him? (:9) The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people, (:10) (Genesis 49:8-10)

This was a messianic prophetic blessing Jacob gave to Judah without knowing that out of the tribe of Judah comes David and the Messiah Jesus.

His name was associated with praise. Jacob praised God out of gratefulness when Leah gave birth to Judah. He was more praise worthy than the first two older brothers. Judah was not perfect as we note of his motive to get profit in getting rid of Joseph (Genesis 37:6) and was unfaithful to his daughter-in-law Tamar (Genesis 38:18, 26) It is the richest grace and mercy of God through His sovereign choice. He spared the life of Joseph (Genesis 37:26), he was willing to become surety for Benjamin's life (Genesis 44:18-34), and he directed the family on their way to Goshen (Genesis 46:28)

Jacob blessed him as one with authority to rule. From David until the Herods, a prince of Judah was head over Israel. The tribe of Judah led the march in the wilderness facing the enemy. King David was from this tribe. He had many conquests and the people of Israel came together and would have him as their king. Associated as a young lion speaks of might, vibrancy, greatness and kingship. He exercises His power in peace, as Shiloh meant peace. Jesus is referred to as Shiloh,

We note the fulfilment in Christ, "But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to lose its seven seals."(Revelation 5:5) Jesus was called the Lion of Judah. Satan attempted to destroy the Messianic line but he failed. Jesus shall remain King and rule in the millennium for the sceptre shall never depart from Him.

Prayer: Father God, You have ordained Jesus as the Lion of Judah. Lord Jesus, You are the King of Kings. I am of Your royal priesthood and under Your rule. Your Name reminds me of praise. I will live with giving You the praise worthy of Your Name.
