RECIEVING THE RAIN
Read Hosea 10 Israels Sin and Captivity
Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unploughed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you. (Hosea 10:12)
God was calling Israel to repentance in the midst of pronouncing judgement for their alleged sins. Israel empties his vine; He brings forth fruit for himself. According to the multitude of his fruit He has increased the altars; According to the bounty of his land They have embellished his sacred pillars. (Hosea 10:1)
Israel was sowing to the wind by careless and sinful living. God was calling them to walk in righteousness to reap its fruit. Sowing righteousness was meant for their own blessings. Ones life is determined by what one sows into this life.
God's love never ceases toward Israel. He calls upon them to reap the fruit of that love meant for them. However, Israel is reaping the natural inevitable results of judgement as they are reaping of the sins they sowed.
God calls them to break up the unploughed ground referring to the condition of their hearts. They are like ground thats hardened left with weeds, remains of dead plants and left uncultivated, hard and unproductive. Breaking it out is the preparation for Gods visitation. Far a contrite and a broken heart God will not despise.
They must not procrastinate when God is calling them to Himself. Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. (Isaiah 55:6) Seek forgiveness of sin and walk in righteousness showing repentance.
A promise for personal as well as national application: ploughing, sowing and reaping. When they see God's love and response through repentance they will witness His visitation and showers of blessings.
There are areas of our lives that are carouse and hardened in sin. When we acknowledge our sins; we receive Gods forgiveness and guidance. His righteousness becomes ours enabling us to sow love and thus reaping its fruit of revival.
Prayer: Lord You are the Source of my Righteousness. I plough the ground of my heart and sow the seed of Your righteousness. You shower upon me. I will then reap the fruit of Your unfailing love.
