Read Judges 2:6-15 Disobedience and Defeat

So the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD which He had done for Israel. (Judges 2:7)

The different tribes were mentioned with their conquests. These various lands were ruled by the pagans. The Israelites did not destroy them all. They took them as slaves but without going into idolatrous practices.

The Israelites were submissive to Joshua and his leaders. And the children of Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua; (Joshua 24:31). These had seemed what the Lord had done in Egypt, at the Red sea, in the wilderness, as well as since their coming into the land of Canaan.

After Joshua died and the leaders who survived him died shortly, the Israelites gradually fell into idolatry (Judges 2:6-8). This subsequent generation had not seen the mighty things God had done for Israel. They did not acknowledge the Lord nor remember what have been told them. When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the LORD nor the work which He had done for Israel. (Judges 2:10 NKJV)

How important it is to prepare the next generation! Each of us as parents are spiritual leaders. We see the importance of passing on the legacy and values that will keep them as committed to serve the Lord. This comes by teaching them the word, living the exemplary life and encouraging them to do the same.

Prayer: Father God, I thank You for those who have taught and mentored me spiritually. I am granted the opportunity to equip the next generation where You have placed me. I am aware of my partnership with You, even as I spend time to pass on my values to those You brought along my path besides my grandchildren.
